The Master Plan to a Better Semester

1. Meditate, pray, and sleep. I don’t think I have ever had a stressful semester than this one, and I can only hope it stays that way. Taking four college classes is one thing and is easy with discipline. But a couple weeks into the semester, I had added a part-time job, more friends to hang out with, and another online class and I noticed it was taking a toll on me. I was actually getting sick from the stress I had put on myself. Take some time out of the day, pray and meditate on peaceful things. Get those naps in too.

2. Play less. I do school work on the weekdays, and I work throughout the weekend. I don’t get off until 10 or 10:30, but if my friends were going to a party that started at 11, you’d see me there. Nahh, that’s got to stop. I need to learn how to say no and get away from this notion that just because I have a job, I need to have fun afterwards. No. What I need is sleep!

3. Actually study. I was one of those people in high school that never had to do intense studying, and could still manage to get an A. No one in my college classes were ever competitive, and I’m used to other smart people as being my motivation to study harder. Now that I don’t have that, it’s been a hell of a lot harder. I need to visit StudyBlue a lot more like I used to. 

4. Get help. Unfortunately, my pride kept me from reaching out to my professors for help when I most needed it. No question is a dumb one, and asking them could help you save your grade. Your professors have office hours, so use them

5. Attend more events around campus. I had actually planned on attending a few seminars and free events around my campus, but out of pure laziness never went. 

6. Drink more water.

7. Get back on the fitness plan. I don’t know how I’ll fit that in, but yeah. I’ll find a way.

8. Try this thing called a “Study Group” out. I get distracted easily as it is, but I’m willing to try it out.

9. Stay organized. I was organized at the beginning of the year, but when everything changed, that flew out of the window. Take some time out to order your priorities. Write all the assignments down in your planner, but if anything changes throughout the semester, write those in too! Take that planner with you everywhere, so you don’t forget. Write in meetings, plans, to-do lists, tests (days in advance to allow for study time), etc.

I Made The Chop!

A couple days into my winter break, I decided I wanted a fresh new look. Nothing to elaborate, classic, and maintainable. I have really healthy natural hair. I went to ULTA, having only scheduled an appointment two hours in advanced. I had already had a few styles in mind and was going to let my stylist help me narrow down based on my hair’s needs and abilities. I knew I didn’t want to get something so short that I couldn’t possibly straighten it. I also did not want a bob, as that would be too long. I settled for this look…

I love it! It’s the perfect look, and just enough hair to where I can roll out of bed and make some magic happen without the use of a flat iron or curling wand. Plus, there is so much versatility. I can go edgy with a mohawk, or I can go classier as seen in the photo. 

Now initially my parents did NOT like the new ‘do. I had to convince them that this was the right choice. My mom came around quickly and even compared my new look to that of Dorothy Dandridge’s (huge compliment!). My dad, although he likes it, is probably convinced that I’m going through a Miley Cyrus phase. My boyfriend and friends love it.

I’m very much convinced that this was a great decision. I paid $50 for it, so it was well worth the investment. I don’t really picture myself ever going back to my long locks.
